Kenny Wanlass, a 12th-grader at Newport Harbor High, won the boys large school senior 1.38-mile race in 6:16.6 to hold off KC Barber of Westlake in 6:17.7 at the Fastback Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Wanlass won the junior race last year at Fastback Invitational. The course consisted of two Valley loops and then up past the mile mark, before making a right turn down National Guard Alley, another right turn on the airstrip and a final right turn into the gauntlet.
